Jane Michelle Adams I am a Lancashire born artist who currently lives in Warwickshire, UK. I studied art at college and went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art Painting & Textiles. My art involves the exploration of various things that interest me as an artist, particularly nature; plant life, flowers, leaves, butterflies, birds and the ocean. I also love fashion, interior design & architecture. As with all my work I'm fascinated by colour & pattern, and with nature there is a vast amount of these elements which are valuable to any artist, providing a rich source of material as well as textural qualities and colouring. I experiment with sketches and samples using paints, pastels and fabrics, continuing onto canvas or paper/fabric as a final piece. I also enjoy digital photography. As my work is mainly concentrating on mark-making, colour and texture, I look at and research artists who have used nature and still-life as a subject i.e. Impressionist Painters such as Claude Monet, Post Impressionists Paul Cezanne, Vincent Van Gogh, and Paul Gauguin, who I think were important, influentially towards modern art which progressed onto and related to Abstract artists, such as, Patrick Heron, Paul Klee, Robert & Sonia Delauany, Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braques. I love the art of Patrick Heron, Jasper Johns and Gustav Klimt, and my favourite art movement is The Pre-Raphaelites. My favourite artist of this art movement being John William Waterhouse. Through studying Fine Art Painting & Textiles I find that I am motivated by two elements - colour and texture. I think that it is an important attribute as an artist to respond to the materials used within the work, for example the richness of a colour, textural qualities of a surface, or the way in which something shines. I concentrate on the image produced but also look at the materials used on the surface. I have also created handmade art cards & envelopes with some of my art designs.
I'm also interested in home décor, and I have qualifications in Successful Interior Design. My art designs have been included on soft furnishings, such as cushions, travel bags, kitchenware, etc., as well as tote bags, online at Bags of Love UK & Society 6 USA.
I have also been a member of The UK Artists Online, The Leamington Studio Artists & The Irving Sandler Artists File, a New York based on-line gallery that was made possible with the support from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. I am very happy to create any commissions.
